Ares – Will Music Lovers Have to Pay Extra for Lyrics?
It used to be that when you bought a new album on cassette or CD, you could often find the lyrics to all the songs printed in the booklet inside the case. A lot of CD album booklets don’t contain the lyrics anymore, and you don’t get lyrics when you buy mp3 albums online. It’s troubling that many sites and search engines warned no more lyrics could be shared there, under pressure from publishers who want extra compensation for them. If, in the future, search engines have to pay for allowing lyric look-up, will the extra cost get passed on to us, the consumers and music lovers? If we already paid for a whole song or album, doesn’t and shouldn’t that include the lyrics?
